MANGOCHI, Malawi – On September 26, 2019, the confreres who gathered in Malawi ended the general assembly with a colourful Eucharistic celebration that was presided by Bishop Montfort Stima of Mangochi Diocese. This celebration was also graced by the presence of Fr. Israel Madziakamphwa, the Judicial Vicar and Secretary of the Bishop of Mangochi Diocese, and the superior of the Daughters of Wisdom in Malawi and her council.

In his homily, the Vicar General Fr. Wismick Jean Charles, SMM expressed his joy in seeing how vibrant the Africa Anglophone General Delegation is in terms of vitality as well as its mission. He further pointed out that the presence of the Daughters of Wisdom during the Mass was a great sign of unity and collaboration among us as a Montfortian family. Furthermore, he invited all the confreres to consider this closing Mass as the beginning of their mission to go out and implement whatever was discussed during the assembly. He said, “This Mass sends us into mission to renew our lives as missionaries and rebuild the Kingdom of God. We need to go out and serve God’s people, bearing in mind the motto that guides your delegation: We shall go to them!’”. In order to achieve this, he appealed to all the members to be more available and focused on personal renewal. In this manner, they will be able to renew the lives of others and rebuild the house of God joyfully and faithfully.

On his part, Bishop Montfort Stima thanked Fr. Paul Lonely Mashonga, SMM for inviting him to celebrate the Mass. He alluded to the rich Montfortian history and presence in Malawi and hinted that Montfort Missionaries is a seed of Catholic faith in the country. Henceforth, he encouraged the members to continue living their spirituality and sharing it to others.

Likewise, the Superior Delegate of the Africa Anglophone General Delegation, Fr. Paul expressed his joy and gratitude to God for the successful completion of the assembly. He also showed his appreciation to Bishop Stima and the councillors of the Daughters of Wisdom led by Sr. Mary Chimalizeni, DW for their presence during the closing celebration of the assembly. Moreover, Archbishop Thomas Msusa, SMM of Blantyre archdiocese also paid us a visit during the assembly.

We thank the Lord for seeing us throughout our general assembly as well as for inspiring and guiding us with His Holy Spirit in all our deliberations. We fervently pray that He may help and lead us to the implementation of what we have discussed and agreed upon during the assembly.
