Footprints of a Visit, Seeds of Hope
[FR]
SCHIMMERT, the Netherlands - The presence of a shepherd often brings more than just a formal visit—it brings renewed spirit, encouragement, and new hope. This is what we have experienced as a small Montfortian community in the Netherlands in recent times. After the passing of Father Peter DENEMAN, SMM, who served for a long time as our Provincial Superior and who died on September 28, 2025, we felt a deep sense of loss. Yet, as in every journey of faith, God does not leave us to walk alone.
In November 2025, coinciding with the commemoration of All Souls, we received a visit from Father Marco PASINATO, SMM. His presence was simple yet deeply strengthening—he came not only as a leader, but as a brother who understands and supports. In the midst of grief, his visit became a spark that rekindled our missionary spirit. This year, in the midst of the busy celebrations of Holy Week, we once again received a special visit from Father Dwi WATUN, SMM, the Superior General of the Montfortians. His presence felt close and genuine, because he truly entered into the rhythm of our daily life and mission.
During his days in the Netherlands, he took time to speak with the confreres, both individually and in meetings with the Provincial Council. These conversations were not formalities, but open and profound moments of sharing about life, ministry, and hope for the future.
What made this visit even more meaningful was his participation in various liturgical celebrations. He attended the Chrism Mass in the Diocese of Roermond, where he was warmly welcomed by Bishop Mgr. Cornelis van DEN HOUT and the priests. On Holy Thursday, he joined the celebration with children in our parish federation—a simple yet vibrant expression of a living Church. That evening, we celebrated the Eucharist in Schimmert, where Father Charles LETA, SMM, our Provincial Superior, offered a welcoming address.
The journey continued through the Easter Vigil in Genhout and Easter Sunday in Schimmert. His presence in different communities made us deeply aware that we are not walking alone in this mission. On Easter Monday, he also attended the priestly jubilee of Father Herman JANSSEN, SMM—a joyful and grateful celebration made even more meaningful by his presence. It became a beautiful sign of brotherhood and fidelity to vocation.
All these moments left a warm and lasting impression on us. The visit of Father General was not merely a visit, but a confirmation that our small mission in the Netherlands remains meaningful, alive, and part of God’s greater work. Thank you, Father General, for your meaningful presence. May every encounter, conversation, and celebration we shared become seeds of grace—for us and for the people we are called to serve.
