NEW MANILA, Philippines - The Montfort Missionaries Philippine Delegation held its General Assembly on August 1-3, 2017 at the delegation house in New Manila, Quezon City, Philippines. The gathering which was attended by both the perpetually professed members and the scholastics highlighted the Acts of the General Chapter 2017 as its main topic. Fr. Richard J. Magararu, SMM Philippines Delegate Superior, facilitated the three-day affair.
The first day started with only the perpetually professed members participating as a part of the regular monthly gathering of the Perpetually Professed. In the morning of the second day, the Acts of the 2017 General Chapter was presented to the whole assembly and afterwards, the assembly was divided into two groups for discussion and deliberation. It was followed by the reporting of each group. One of the general realizations of the Delegation is to emphasize the need to restore and to re-introduce the Montfortian identity in our apostolate and missions. The need for a genuine Montfortian identity in the Philippines was mirrored through the reinforcement and creation of a re-tooled itinerant Mission Team that will help bring the Montfortian Spirituality to the Filipino faithful. A new plan is currently in the process, headed by the person in-charge of the Montfort Center of Spirituality and the Delegation Council.
Later in the evening of the second day, a farewell party was organized for the two newly professed Malawian scholastics namely, Montfort and Horrice, who will be departing the Philippines on 3rd August, 2017 for Nairobi, Kenya.
A Eucharist was celebrated before lunchtime to conclude the whole affair on the last day. It was attended by all members of the Philippine Delegation including some Montfortian Associates. Announcement of new assignments was also made by Rev. Fr. Richard J. Magararu, SMM.
