BANGALORE, India - Yuva Milana is the gathering of the brothers from all the formation houses of the vice-province of India. It is the time that all the students from the different communities await to gather to participate and enjoy the presence of the others from the same congregation. This year, the Yuva milana (gathering of the young) took place in Maria Bhavan, the mother house of Montfort Missionaries, India on 22nd and 23rd of October 2022 with lot of enthusiasm. It is a two-day programme which was conducted with all the activities, spiritual, physical, intellectual and cultural.
The committee members Frs. Prem, Johnson and Judis planned the programme and informed the students to prepare themselves one month in advance. The young students were more than eager to attend the gathering and they prepared to participate in the group activities, reading the writings of Saint-Louis Marie de Montfort.
The formal beginning of the Yuva Milana began in the morning of 22nd October with the prayer and the Eucharist. The inauguration of the gathering began at 9am in the Maria Bhavan Auditorium. Fr. Wismick JEAN CHARLES, SMM, the Assistant Superior General and Fr. Peter MASCARENHAS, SMM, the provincial superior, inaugurated the Yuva Milana, lighting the lamp along with the students’ representatives. In his Inaugural address, Father provincial encouraged the young Montfortians and invited them to live the Montfortian spirit. He said we need to be united and develop the holistic characteristic towards the society and individual so that we can face the future with confidence.
After the inaugural address, Fr. Prem presented the objectives of the gathering and introduced the goals and objectives of the continental assembly. The objectives are as follows:
- To build the unity among the younger members of the Company of Mary.
- To develop the good and balanced relationship between the members of the Montfortian family.
- To develop common goal in living out the Montfortian spirituality.
- To live and act together and to be available to the other and work together.
Goal to achieve in the inter community gathering
- To participate in the common programme to understand the person’s talents and gifts in the formation.
- To encourage the common goal of becoming the Monfortian religious and priest to the church.
- To support the other and encourage the other in the group, now and later in the community that we live.
- To experience the brotherhood through the various activities
There were 52 brothers who participated in the gathering along with the formators. They were divided into four groups and different activities were conducted. There were common prayers, candle light rosary procession, and Eucharistic celebrations that were presided by Fr. Wismick on the first day and Fr. Peter Mascarehnas on the second day who gave beautiful messages for the day.
The Quiz was conducted on the writings of the founder, Bible, general knowledge and newspaper. Indoor and outdoor sports, cultural competitions both spiritual and entertainment programmes were held. The sports were very interesting which brought out all the talents of the students. The positive attitude of the students was highly appreciable for they tried to include all in the group. At the end of the second day, the students were given prizes in appreciation for their efforts.
The gathering formally concluded on the 23rd of October with valedictory function during that time the cultural competitions were conducted according to the group that they belong. Father Provincial gave away the prizes and thanked the planning committee and all the participants. Later, Fr. Prem gave the formal vote of thanks to all. During that the final evaluations were conducted and got the feedback of the programme and it was nice to know that all of them were very happy to meet all the students from various stages of formation. The Yuva Milana was concluded with a hymn to Mary.
