FLORES, Indonesia - In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Montfortian Novitiate community in Ruteng, Manggarai, Flores, Indonesia welcomed 15 postulants. These young men were initiated into the life of the Montfortian community during the evening prayer on Saturday, July 10, 2021. This simple celebration was presided by Fr. Lodofikus Ndona, SMM.

In his brief reflection, quoting the gospel of St. John about Andrew who introduced his brother Peter to Jesus Christ, and also the Letter to the members of the Company of Mary, he reminded the new postulants as members of the community, not to be afraid of anything. “We are all together with each one of you in this journey of seeking the plan of God for your life. We will help you to grow in your yearning in knowing better and deeper the spirit of St. Montfort and the way of living as Montfort Missionaries.”

They come from different dioceses in Flores such as the Diocese of Larantuka, East Flores, the Archdiocese of Ende, Center Flores, the Diocese of Ruteng and the Diocese of Sintang. Supposedly, there were 16 postulants but one of them was not able to attend. He was affected by the regional lockdown due to Covid-19. He will then join the others later.

Almost all of them want to become priests. Only one applied for brotherhood. On the following day, they began their journey of life as Montfortian candidates with a twelve-day retreat with the theme, “Basking in Love – Love Bath” under the guidance of Fr. Laurentius Maria Ariston, SMM who is one of the formators in the Montfortian Novitiate, Ruteng.

Please pray for these young men that they may find themselves at home in this formation community and move forward in their vocation.

Fr. Lodofikus Ndona, SMM
