MALANG, Indonesia - On August 23, 2018, in a very solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by his Eminence, Mgr. Henricus Pydiarto O.Carm, the Bishop of Malang diocese, Deacon Albertus Arif, SMM received his priestly ordination along with two deacons; one from the diocese of Malang and the other belongs to the CDD congregation. The ordination was held in the Cathedral of Malang and was attended by the parishioners, priests, religious and relatives of the deacons coming from the city of Malang and the surroundings. Fr. Arif is the first Montfortian from the diocese of Malang, precisely from St. Mary Announciate Lodamem Parish.
In his homily, Bishop Hendricus, recalled clearly the original meaning of becoming a Shepherd as indicated in the Biblical context of the Old Testament which then culminated in the attitude of Jesus, the Good Shepherd, in the New Testament. He then advised the newly ordained priests to inherit the same passion, attitude and sentiment of the Good Shepherd in accompanying the people of God entrusted to their care.
Fr. Arif’s first assignment is in the diocese of Malang and the bishop entrusted him to become the assistant parish priest in Situbondo Parish. He is attached to the scholasticate community in Malang. After the Mass, the celebration continued in the Montfort Scholasticate community where the families, the friends and the relatives of Fr. Arif joined together in a joyful atmosphere with all Montfortian families and benefactors. Fr. Arif was welcomed at the gate of the scholasticate with a cultural dance performed by scholastics and some priests, followed by a garden party and simple dinner.
This year, the Indonesian Province is blessed with two newly ordained priests. On June 10, 2018 we witnessed the priestly ordination of Fr. Hediharto Arlusius, SMM who was ordained in Ketang Parish in the diocese of Ruteng, Flores. Fr. Hedi is assigned in the Postulant-Noviciate community in Ruteng as he has the experience of being a formator in the minor seminary of Pius XII and SMM Aspirancy program.
I invite all of you to pray for them and for their ministry as Montfortian priests.
-Fr. Antonius Tensi, SMM
