LIMA, Peru - On the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the Canonization of Father de Montfort, the Montfortian Scholasticate held a retreat to prepare for the renewal of temporary vows in the retreat house ‘San Martin de Porres’ (formerly the Foyer of Charity) from July 19-21, 2024.
The retreat was led by Fr. Jaime Oved CABREJO RUIZ, SMM, Provincial Superior of Colombia. With great simplicity and depth, Fr. Jaime encouraged the scholastics to return, first to love, the person of Jesus and accompanied by the life of Montfort. He invited them to become aware of the value of the evangelical counsels and to renew them in the Company of Mary for today's Church.
The retreat culminated in the celebration of the Eucharist on Sunday evening, in the Montfortian parish of ‘La Visitation de Notre-Dame’, where the formation community of the International Latin American and Caribbean Scholasticate is located in Lima, Peru. The celebration was presided over by Fr. José Ángel JULCAHUANCA PARIATON, SMM, Superior of the Peru-Brazil General Delegation, in his capacity as Representative of the Superior General. Fr. Jaime Oved, SMM and other Montfortian Fathers and lay people from the parish were also present.
The Montfortian religious, namely Didier Mauricio NARANJO AGUDELO (Colombia), Oscar Alexander RUIZ AGUIRRES (Nicaragua), Joël AIRUKKARAN JOSEPH (India), Maria Joseph IRUDAYA MACMILLAN MAHESH (India) Diego Alexander CASTAÑO GAVIRIA (Colombia), Vitor GALVANIN ARAUJO (Brazil) and Jean-Marie CÉLESTIN (Haiti), renewed for one year their vows and mission of Poverty, Chastity and Obedience in the ‘Little and Poor Company of Mary’ Montfortian Missionaries, so desired by our founder.
The seven scholastics currently form the scholasticate community, accompanied by Fr. Luis SALVADOR AVILA, SMM and Fr. Giovanni BIGONI, SMM as formators.
