Superior General Commends Luntha TV for Professional Journalism and Evangelization
Lilongwe, MALAWI - The Superior General of the Montfort Missionaries, Father Yoseph Putra Dwi Darma WATUN, SMM has commended Luntha Television for its commitment to professional journalism, objectivity and evangelization, describing the station as a vital apostolate that continues to shape society through truth and wisdom.
Speaking during a visit to the station on Thursday morning 16th July 2026, Father General praised the dedication of the station's staff, saying the media ministry has become an important platform for promoting Gospel values while serving the public with credible and balanced information.
He has since encouraged journalists and producers to continue using their talents with passion and integrity, stressing that the congregation's mission extends beyond the Church to transforming society through truthful and responsible communication.
He was accompanied by Assistant General, Fr. Paul Lonely MASHONGA SMM and the Delegate Superior for General Delegation of Anglophone Africa (Malawi, Zambia, Uganda and Kenya), Fr. Jacob OTIENO SMM, who also chairs Luntha TV’s Board of Governors and Board of Trustees.
Earlier, Luntha TV Director Fr. David NIWAGABA SMM highlighted the growth of the media house, noting that the station has also recorded significant growth on digital platforms, reaching millions of people through its online content while maintaining its commitment to balanced and professional journalism.
Fr. David also noted that the station earned public confidence during the September 2025 General Elections after continuing to provide election coverage under challenging circumstances, reinforcing its reputation as a trusted source of news.
Father DWI and Fr. Paul arrived in Malawi on Wednesday 15th July 2026 through Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe welcomed by Fr. Jacob, ahead of the celebrations marking 125 years of the presence and service of the Montfort Missionaries in the country, happening on August 1st 2026, at Saint Louis of Montfort, Balaka Parish in Mangochi diocese.
