ZOMBA, Malawi - During the solemnity of the Annunciation on the 25th of March, 2019, the Montfort Fathers and the Daughters of Wisdom converged at Stima Parish in Zomba Diocese to celebrate the occasion and also to welcome the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel. The celebration begun with the Eucharistic Celebration which was led by Emeritus Bishop Allesandro Pagani, SMM. In the homily, Fr. Charlie, SMM, quoting St. Louis-Marie de Montfort, exhorted the congregation that if we don’t take risks for God, we cannot do anything worthwhile.

The two brothers who came to start a mission in Malawi are Bro. Prudence Shirubute, SG, from Rwanda and Bro. Ajay, Murmu, SG, from India. They arrived in Malawi on March 19, 2019, together with their superior who went back to Tanzania a couple of days ago. They are currently residing at the bishop’s house in Zomba Diocese.

Bro. Prudence did not hide his feelings for coming to Malawi. He said, “It is really to our surprise and words cannot express our joy. It is not only from the two of us but also from the whole congregation. We mark the history as the third congregation of the Montfort Family to come to Malawi. We are very happy and we are sure to collaborate with the Daughters of Wisdom and the Montfort Fathers...”.

He added, “We are very happy to be the pioneers of the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel in Malawi particularly in Zomba Diocese. It has been a long plan and finally, we will go to Malawi on the 19th of March, 2019. By July, other brothers will be joining the mission”.

Bro. Ajay also expressed his joy and gratitude. He also said, “Thank you for the warm welcome and for the prayers that you have offered for us and we hope that we will work and collaborate together as we are in Zomba Diocese. Thank you, ‘zikomo” (in Chichewa language of Malawi)”.

These two brothers will be running a school near Zomba Cathedral. When they were asked what special touch they are bringing that will differentiate their school from others, this is what they said, “The special touch that we are bringing is striving for success that is based on the love of God, the love of Mary and discipline, this is what we will emphasize”.

This historical celebration was concluded with a meal and refreshments.
