KISANGANI, DRC - After three days of retreat, the Montfort missionaries of the General Delegation of Africa Francophone gathered in a General Assembly with the Superior General and the General Councilor in charge of Africa this Thursday, August 29. After an opening prayer, Father Yoseph Putra Dwi Darma WATUN, SMM made an introduction to launch the meeting. In his speech, the Superior General echoed the words of the retreat preacher, showing the need to let ourselves be guided by the Spirit so that we can truly be liberos. He also emphasized earlier during the Mass that the Assembly must be prophetic and charismatic. A charismatic Assembly is one that is led by prayer. He invited the participants in this Assembly that they must be animated by the gentleness and the tenderness of Jesus.
After the Superior General, Father Guélord ASEME MUKE, SMM, Superior Delegate, also placed a word to wish a good Assembly to all the confreres present. For this first day of the Assembly, the first point raised was that of the rereading of the 2022 mini-Assembly. This rereading was done by Father Claude DISA MUTUNZI, SMM, Secretary of the Entity. After this first point, it was the turn of each community to present the pastoral and missionary realities that they experience. Each community presented its strengths and difficulties with some proposals to meet the challenges.
In the afternoon, as planned in the day's program, the Entity's Legal Counsel presented the situation of the “Kambakamba concession” in Kisangani, which is an asset of the entity. The said concession is currently in trouble before the courts with certain individuals. Seeing these difficulties, the entity finds itself unable to recover the full extent of its assets. Hence, the assembly resolved to look for ways to protect the part that is not problematic in order to keep the heritage of the Congregation.
And during the evening adoration, the Superior General communicated the new administration of the General Delegation of Africa Francophone composed of: P. Guélord ASEME MUKE, SMM (Superior Delegate), P. Jean-Trésor BAFENGO TOSWEOKI, SMM (Councillor), P. Ephrem KULONDWA MUDERHWA, SMM (Councillor).
After dinner, the Assembly resumed to finish sharing on certain points raised during the day. The meetings of the first day of the Assembly ended at 9:30pm.
May God bless the Montfortian mission in the Africa Francophone!
