PONCHATEAU, France - The year of the 350th anniversary of the birth of Saint Louis Marie de Montfort (January 31, 1673 – January 31, 2023), on April 13, 2023 a final work of art was completed, placed in the Church of Notre Dame du Calvaire, which constitutes an additional element in the construction, renovation, maintenance and improvement of what is called "Le Calvaire de Pontchâteau".

Work commissioned by Fr. Santino Brembilla (superior pro tempore of the Montfortian Community of Pontchâteau) and entrusted with the design, planning and construction to the architect. Riccardo Scotti from Verdello (Bergamo) Italy, consists of two panels divided into different parts representing:

The history of Calvary as a place of dissemination of the Gospel message, through the construction and enlargement of Calvary. Father de Montfort assisted by Brother Mathurin Rangeard. Father Françoise Gouray who rebuilt the Calvary in 1821, with the Bishop of Nantes, Jacquemet, who requested the collaboration of the whole diocese to renovate the Calvary, the Montfortian Father Jaques Barré, who with the help of the Zouave Alfred Gerbaud enlarged and they transformed the sanctuary and then all the work of the volunteers from the beginning until today.

The history of the Montfortian Family: Sister Marie-Louise Trichet, co-founder with the Montfortian Father of the Daughters of Wisdom, the Marquis de Magnanne, Henri-Françoise de Raccapé, who contributed to establishing the presence of the Montfortian family in Saint Laurent sur Sèvre, Fr. Gabriel Deshayes, superior general of the Montfortians, who gave impetus to the Montfortian Congregations, separating the teaching brothers under the name of Brothers of Saint-Gabriel, Sister Margarita who educated a blind-deaf-mute girl, Brothers Thomas, who consecrated all his life the life of the deaf-mutes, Fr. Olivier Mairie, killed on 08/09/2021 by a Rwandan immigrant. The Montfortian "Hospitalers" who have been helping the Montfortian pilgrimage to Lourdes for 74 years.

Made of polychrome inlays (cherry, Slavonian oak, maple, birch, ash, evaporated beech, okoumé, tanganika, walnut). Painted with acrylic colors and with a gold mosaic background and vitrified enamels by the company Mosaici Dona from Murano, it was built in Verdello (Bergamo) and assembled on site.

Collaborated: Gian Battista Ghislotti (for the carpentry part), Eugenio Bonomelli (for the frames and the detection of arcs), Battista Cortinovis and Sandro Locatelli (for the packaging and shipping of the panels from Verdello to Pontchâteau).

With design, planning and realization of the architect Riccardo Scotti is also the cycle of images, located in the great hall of the "Temple of Jerusalem", composed of panels reproducing the original paintings, completed in 2019. The biblical story is called The Way of God in the history of the Bible and consists of eight themes, each divided into triptychs: Creation, Patriarchs, Chosen People, Kings, Prophets, Psalms, Women, Waiting. Finally, the panel of Christ the Good Shepherd is the point of arrival.

Always with design, planning and realization of the architect Riccardo Scotti there are graffiti made on the building outside the "Temple" and made with the aim of properly completing some recently built parts, they were made in September 2020 with the collaboration of Claudio Scotti.

With all these works, we also express the will to overcome this moment of social crisis, the war in Ukraine (with the hope of a quick, just and lasting peace), the problem of the Covid-19 pandemic (not yet resolved), climate change caused by mismanagement of natural resources.

We also remember and thank:
