Inter-Montfortian Formation in Asia

BANGKOK, Thailand – A significant Montfortian formation program for animators was held on June 24–27, 2025 at the Provincial Development Center of the Brothers of Saint Gabriel. The event brought together religious and lay associates from various parts of Asia, united by a desire to deepen their understanding of the spirituality of Saint Louis-Marie de Montfort.

This initiative was born as a response to a need expressed during the 2023 Montfortian Regional Conference in Bandung, Indonesia: the call for deeper formation in Montfortian spirituality. The Formation Committee (MODA), led by Zerah GOH, thus organized two key events for 2025: this formation program for trainers, and an upcoming inter-congregational retreat scheduled in Malang, Indonesia, from July 20 to 26.

The heart of the program was led by Father Hugh Gillespie, SMM, a knowledgeable and passionate expert in Montfortian spirituality. His sessions addressed the key themes of Montfortian charism: the Holy Spirit, Mary, the Incarnation, the Cross, poverty, mission, and integration.

Among the most meaningful reflections were:

·        Prophetic discipleship, inspired by the figures of Elijah and Elisha and the request for a double portion of the Spirit.

·        A deeper understanding of the wedding at Cana as a model of calling and response in God’s salvific plan.

·        The daily use of the "Petite Couronne of the Blessed Virgin Mary", as a tender gesture toward Mary, the “first disciple and living tabernacle.”

The program was enriched by liturgical celebrations, group activities, personal reflections, and a cultural evening. Participants experienced deep communion, fraternal sharing, and spiritual growth.

This program has powerfully revitalized the Montfortian mission in Asia. However, the need for financial support emerged, to enable participants from economically disadvantaged areas to benefit from these essential moments. The next Montfortian Regional Conference in 2026 is now eagerly awaited, with hope to continue this shared journey.
