Praying for the deceased members of the Montfortian Family

BLANTYRE, Malawi - As the month of November in the Catholic Church is dedicated to pray for all the faithful departed, it is with the same spirit that the Montfortian family in Malawi, every year come together in praying for her beloved members who went back to the Lord.

This year 2025, the members gathered at the Nantipwiri cemetery, in the Archdiocese of Blantyre on 10th November, where the members of the Society of the Montfort Missionaries (SMM) and the Daughters of Wisdom (DW) are buried. There was a good representation from both congregations joined by some Spiritan Fathers (CSsp), some sisters of the Servants of the Blessed Virgin Mary (SBVM) and some Montfort lay associates.

The Mass begun at 10 O’clock in the morning and the main celebrant was Fr. Nobert TUKWATANISE, SMM. The Preacher of the day, Fr. Eugenio CUCCHI, SMM in his homily, encouraged all the religious present to always remember to pray for our deceased brothers and sisters who dedicated their lives in serving God. He also stressed that the deceased brothers and sisters of the Montfortian family should not be prayed for only in November but as often as possible. He later encouraged the living religious that it is not a guarantee to enter heaven just because one was a religious, but rather everyone needs to play a part while still alive in preparing oneself for the next life after death.

During her final remarks, Sr. Mary Chimalizeni, the Provincial Superior of the Daughters of Wisdom in Malawi who was also representing all members of the Montfortian family on the particular day, thanked everyone who showed up and urged the two Congregations to keep on collaborating and fostering the unity that is there, making Jesus and His Holy Mother known and loved.
