ROME, Italy - Beneath the golden hues of a Roman sunset, hundreds of young pilgrims gathered at St. Louis de Montfort parish in Monte Mario, Rome on 30th July 2025 for a jubilant celebration of faith, hope and music. Alleluya Band led by Fr. Mario Pacific SMM from Malawi transformed the parochial football pitch into a vibrant stage for youth expression through dance.
In his opening remarks, Fr. Mario, a Montfortian missionary in Malawi and the founding Father of Alleluya Band encouraged the youth to love God and serve the Church and society with Gospel values.
“Like the 12 disciples of Jesus, today 12 members of Alleluya Band from Malawi are here to entertain you, bringing hope and love for God and the Church with music and dance. Let's sing life with joy and remember to support our fellow youth in dire need. With songs, dances, and costumes of the tribes of Malawi, we bear witness to the joy of life, sharing love, hope, and peace with all, for all. This year is the Jubilee of Hope, and we sing Yembe Yembe Hope to sow the seed of hope in the hearts of our communities and confirm the shoots already present within us, to bear fruit of beautiful humanity.”
He said with the golden voice as he continued narrating the amazing humble foundation of Alleluya Band since 1978 in Balaka, Malawi. Thanks to St. John Paul II who opened to the international arena for the band by inviting Alleluya Band to the Vatican, the band has participated in over 12 World Youth Day and makes international tours for a cause – supporting the Comfort Community Hospital in Malawi, which has treated 65,000 people by providing them with healthcare, taking care of street children, impoverished girls for boarding secondary school, nursery schools etc.
Monfort Jubilee 2025 pilgrims and Spanish pilgrims hosted by the parish danced embodying the universal spirit of the Jubilee.
Fr. Agustinus ASMAN, SMM who hails from Indonesia and currently doing pastoral activities in Fatima, Portugal expressed joy and satisfaction with the quality of music and the Malawian cultural rhythm.
“Alleluia Band was amazing last night, with quality voice of the vocalists and the reggae music beat. The region where I come from in Indonesia, we love reggae music. It’s amazing how they integrate music with the culture of Malawi.” He remarked amidst much positive feedback from priests and the youth.
Meanwhile, on Saturday August 2nd at Tor Vergata, Alleluya Band will be part of the on-stage musicians hosted by Rudy Zerbi, Lorena Bianchetti and Paola Arriaza Avilés, Luigi Santarelli and Wallace Freitas, Victor Hernandez and Fabyola Inzunza. At 8:30 pm the Prayer Vigil with Pope Leo will begin.
