GITEGA, Burundi – Saturday, March 25, a historical event occurred at the Montfort Scholasticate of Gitega, Burundi. For the first time ever, the Montfortian family, namely the Daughters of Wisdom, the Montfort Missionaries, the Brothers of St Gabriel, the Monfortian associates (known also as Lay montfortians) and the Militants of the Holy Virgin (an Institute inspired by the Montfortian spirituality), assembled to celebrate together this most important mystery of our spirituality.
This event began with the Eucharist, celebrated by Father Jean de Dieu EKANGA, smm. In his homily, Father insisted that the Son of God really incarnated by taking our human flesh. In his unconditional love, He wanted to experience and smell human misery. And we as Christians, pastors, religious, are called to live this same experience close to our flock’s misery. In this way, Christ can continue to incarnate in every human heart in this time of globalization.
However, as already mentioned, this celebration signaled the presence, for medical services, of 3 Daughters of Wisdom with one aspirant from Congo. The Eucharist was animated by a choir that included Montfortian Scholastics and postulants of the Brothers of Saint Gabriel. After the liturgy, the guests coming from various communities inspired by Montfortian spirituality with friends and neighbours, entered the great hall of the Montfort Scolasticate to share a happy hour.
In short, as the Preacher of the day pointed out citing Montfort, let us call Mary in us, she who is one with Jesus, so that Jesus come to live in us.
“O Jesus, living in Mary, come and live with us, in the fullness of your virtues, […] by the power of your spirit and for the glory of your Father.” (VD 246)
