Ordination of Fr. Amos Hope MAKINA, SMM

BALAKA, Malawi - On the 4^th of May 2024, the General Delegation of Anglophone Africa welcomed into the Holy Orders Rev. Fr. Amos Hope MAKINA, SMM.

The ordination ceremony was presided over by Most Rev. Bishop Montfort STIMA of Mangochi Diocese. The event took place at St. Louis Montfort Parish Balaka, Mangochi Diocese in Malawi. It was a wonderful occasion for both the Montfort missionaries and the Pallotines who also had one of their members, Fr. Emmanuel NYERERE ordained to priesthood. The celebration was graced by the confreres from Malawi and Zambia, the Daughters of Wisdom in Malawi, the Brothers of Saint Gabriel and many other priests and religious.

Fr. MAKINA hails from Chidule church which is an outstation of Sitima parish in Zomba Diocese. He belongs to the last batch of the international novitiate in the Philippines. Sitima Parish is currently the only parish run by the Montfort missionaries in Zomba Diocese.

In his homily, Bishop called on the newly ordained priests to be closer to the people and to bring to them the Good News of the kingdom and to always remember that they are sent by the Lord of the harvest, hence, need not to fear. He encouraged them to bring the gift of peace to those they will minister too.

Moreover, Bishop Stima advised that every Christian celebration is a campaign for Jesus Christ who called us into different ministries. It’s a time for vocation promotion for those in religious and priestly life. In fact, he called on the Montfort missionaries to take more apostolates within the diocese.

Likewise, the Delegate Superior, Fr. Jacob Ombidi OTIENO, SMM called on the confreres to follow the example of Bishop Alessandro PAGANI, SMM, the bishop emeritus of Mangochi Diocese who even after his retirement as bishop, he continued to serve the faithful through the parish ministry and currently through his presence at the Montfort Media community.

Fr. Amos Hope MAKINA, SMM was appointed to continue serving at St. Louis Montfort Parish Balaka as the assistant parish priest.
