MONTREAL, Canada - Our vice-provincial meeting took place on February 23 and 24, 2022. The Superior General, Fr. Luiz Augusto STEFANI, SMM and Fr. Wismick JEAN-CHARLES, SMM were present. The challenges are great here for our vice-province. The average age is quite high. But there are very few completely retired confreres.
What is clear is that everyone is ready to do what he can to make sure our mission of evangelization in Montfort’s own way will go on with a necessary adaptation to the present times.
Consequently, we will make an evaluation of what we are doing now and search to find what could be done in a place where many had left the Church, taking into account the fact a large part of the many immigrants are Catholics. As anywhere, there are poor people on the material level, and poor in faith. Reaching the youth is the big challenge.
The new council of the vice-province has been given the mandate to present a vision and means to realize it. As Montfort did, we will do our best to respond to the needs of the Church. To fulfill our commitment, we will firmly base our action on the four notes of the Montfortian mission, especially on ‘Doing Together’.
Coming and Going
Our confrere, Masjon KENEDY, SMM landed in Montreal on February 21, 2022. He already started improving his French at the YMCA and will be ready for his studies at the IFHIM (Montreal Institute for Integral Formation) next September. He is getting used with the Canadian winter as a snowstorm was waiting to welcome him. There is quite a difference between Canadian climate and the one of his native Indonesia and Papua New Guinea where he has been a missionary for many years. A warm welcome, Masjon. Be happy among us.
Our confrere, Velines VITAL, SMM went back to Haiti on February 27, 2022. He was here for two years as a member of the team in charge of Mary Queen of All Hearts Shrine. Thank you, Velines. Our prayer is with you in your new mission.
Bro. Gilles PAQUETTE, SMM
