Requiem Mass of Father Jacques MAESSEN, SMM

SINTANG, Indonesia - On Easter Sunday, Father Jacques MAESSEN, SMM began receiving treatment at Sintang Hospital. He was treated for a stroke. After being treated for a week in Sintang, he was finally referred to Antonius Hospital, Pontianak accompanied by Bro. Nikolaus NARIMO, SMM. In Pontianak, Father Jacques was also accompanied by three Montfortians: Bro. Nikolaus NARIMO, Bro. Lambert, and Bro. Lius.
After three weeks of treatment at Antonius Hospital, Pontianak, Father Jacques breathed his last on May 4, 2024. But at this last moment, two SMM Brothers remained loyal to accompany him. Father Jacques’ body was taken to Montfort Monastery in Sintang to be buried there.
Father Jacques’ funeral procession began with a Eucharistic celebration at the Sintang Diocese Cathedral led by Msgr. Samuel OTONSIDIN, bishop of Sintang Diocese. Apart from the Montfortians, several priests in the Diocese of Sintang also participated in the celebration of the requiem Mass. The Cathedral Church was full with believers, the religious and priests.
After the requiem Mass, Father Jacques’ body was taken back to the Montfort Menyurai Monastery for burial. The funeral rite was led by Father Avelinus AMPUT, SMM. The funeral procession was also attended by many parishioners, priests, nuns and brothers. Father Jacques was buried next to the grave of Brother Piet van HOOF, SMM.
Daily prayers for Father Jacques MAESSEN, SMM are being conducted by the local community for seven days and on the seventh day, there will be a Eucharistic celebration.
