ROME, Italy - On June 28, 2023, at the Pontifical Gregorian University, the Italian confrere Alessandro MOLÉ, SMM defended his doctoral thesis in dogmatic theology entitled: "The Diary of Saint Faustina Kowalska as Locus Theologicus of systematic theology".

In his presentation, Alessandro thus explained the horizon and the originality of his research. “The elaboration of this thesis stems from the desire to contribute to the recognition of the great theological value that the mystical testimony of Saint Faustina Kowalska can offer to systematic theology. Indeed, the Church has not yet had the opportunity to fully grasp the theological richness of her writings, the Diary in particular, which by divine order, the Polish saint transcribed between 1931 and 1938 and in which she recorded her many experiences mystics.

Yet, his Diary has such high theological significance that it seems an obvious opportunity for the life and mission of the Church as well as for theology to broaden the knowledge of this mystical witness. It reveals itself as a light to understand more deeply the Mercy of God and the truths revealed in their existential implications, helping theological reflection to advance in its investigation towards new and unexplored horizons for the benefit of its pastoral usefulness.

This is why I have analyzed and systematized the theological content that can be seen from the text of St. Kowalska, illustrating how it can and should be considered a valid locus theologicus of systematic theology, while legitimizing its fundamental character and emphasizing the originality of such mystical knowledge”.

The amount of work that lasted several years ago demanded an unprecedented, precise, and complete cataloging of the passages reported in the Diary, in order to elaborate a systematic discourse aimed at clarifying the different theological contents that structure his mystical testimony.

Sincere congratulations reached the young confrere, not only from the professors who presided over the dissertation of his thesis, but also from the confreres of the Province of Italy and of the General Curia, members of his family and some parishioners. Alessandro is originally from Monte Mario, Rome and is currently in his third year of temporary vows.
