PHILIPPINES - “A Journey to the Cross with Mary” was the theme of the Montfortian Lenten Recollection held at the Montfort Mission House in Lower Calajo-an, Mingllanila, Cebu. The recollection was animated by Rev. Fr. Federick B. Yumang, SMM last March 17, 2019 with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 8 o’clock in the morning and followed by the recollection proper.

The recollection was attended by the members of the Association of Mary Queen of All Hearts (AMQAH), the TTJers, mission partners and the people living around the mission house. The participants were challenged to see the attitude of Mary in facing difficulties in life and that our love for her would take us closer to her Son Jesus as we stand and face the struggles in life with a firm hope and a deep faith.

In Manila, in preparation for the 500th year celebration of catholic faith in the Philippines, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) declared 2019 as the Year of the Youth with a theme: “Filipino Youth in Mission: Beloved, Gifted, Empowered”. In line with this, AMQAH has adopted this theme for this year’s Montfortian Lenten Recollection last March 30, 2019. The recollection was held at the Montfort Center of Spirituality with Rev. Fr. Richard J. Magararu, SMM, the parish priest of Santa Teresita Parish in Makati City as the Recollection Master. The recollection is not only for the youth of today but also for the adults so that they may also be able to see how they can relate with the so called “Millenials”. To better understand the young generation, the recollection challenged them to accept the invitation to enter into a dialogue with them (the young ones), and see the significance of refraining from comparing today’s generation to the past generation. In this manner, they may be able to listen and learn from each other and let them feel that they are beloved, gifted and empowered, and are challenged to do their part in building a more just and humane society.

After the talk, there was a celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation with the Montfort Fathers: Fr. Richard Magararu, Fr. Ariel Aquino, Fr. Arnel Pagduan, and Fr. Benjie Notarte. After the confession, there was also a celebration of the Holy Eucharist in conclusion for this year’s Montfortian Lenten Recollection.
